Vista Joins Nationwide Effort on Patient Safety Awareness
Waukegan, IL — Vista Health System will actively participate in this year’s Patient Safety Awareness Week campaign to help raise awareness and encourage the engagement of patients, families, health care providers, and the public.
Patient Safety Awareness Week runs March 3-9, and this year’s theme, “Patient Safety 7/365,” highlights the importance of focusing on patient safety year round. Patient Safety Awareness Week is an annual education and awareness campaign for health care safety led by the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF).
“Patient safety is our number one priority at Vista, and we’re proud to join the effort to raise awareness on this vitally important issue,” said Barbara J. Martin, president and chief executive officer of Vista Health System. “We appreciate our medical staff and other clinicians who are committed to providing safe, quality care for every patient who visits us at either of our two hospitals or our outpatient and imaging facilities. At Vista, staff, physicians and leaders embrace Patient Safety as a core value. We implement evidence-based tools and strategies from high reliability science in addition to practicing the National Patient Safety Goals to ensure safe care and service for our patients.”
Vista will join participating health care organizations around the world in prominently displaying the campaign logo and promotional materials within their organizations. The seven days of the campaign also serve as time to recognize the range of work being done to improve health care safety worldwide.
“Patient Safety 7/365 reminds us that providing safe patient care requires a constant and valiant effort, 365 days a year,” said Patricia A. McGaffigan, RN, MS, interim president, NPSF. “The week is intended to imprint an indelible statement that efforts toward patient safety must be collaborative and that we must never be satisfied with the status quo.”
