Vista Health System is a designated Illinois Department of Public Health Resource Hospital, which has the authority and the responsibility for the North Lake County EMS System. The North Lake County EMS System is an organization of hospitals, vehicle service providers and personnel approved by the Illinois Department of Public Health in a specific geographic area, which coordinates and provides pre-hospital and inter-hospital emergency care and non-emergency medical transports at a Basic Life Support and Advance Life Support levels.
North Lake County EMS System, through the EMS Medical Director, assumes responsibility for the entire EMS System, including the clinical aspects, operations and educational programs. The North Lake County EMS System is also responsible for replacing medical supplies and provide for equipment exchange for participating EMS vehicles.
The North Lake County EMS System develops written standing orders (treatment protocols, standard operating procedures) to be used in the EMS Medical Director's absence and certify that all involved personnel will be knowledgeable in emergency care and capable of providing treatment and using communications equipment.
