Waukegan,
Ill., 12/11/07--As the hustle and bustle of the holidays surround our daily activities, the team at Vista Health System felt it was the perfect time to give a little more back to the community. Building on a past relationship with the United Way of Lake County, the employees at Vista Health System constructed a donation of $51,148.19.
Putting these funds into perspective, according to the United Way, $1 a week, will allow a victim of domestic abuse to get counseling and legal advice. $5 a week will provide two months of reading and writing education for two illiterate adults and $25 a week will provide 4 months of high quality, enriching after-school programs for a developmentally disable youth.
Barbara Martin, President and CEO of Vista Health System said, “I am extremely proud of the enormous success we had with this year’s United Way Charitable Campaign. To see our employees give back in such an enormous manner is a wonderful testament to our system wide dedication to the community. I am delighted to know that through our company’s culture of goodwill, Lake County will be better place to live.”
All of the funds raised were completely optional and provided by the staff at Vista Health System. None of the money donated was provided directly by the hospital. A volunteer committee of dedicated individuals used their flair for creativity to find a wide variety of fund raising opportunities.
Spearheaded by Deanna Stich, Director of Volunteers and Senior Circle, some of the creative fund raising tactics included purchasing the opportunity to wear jeans on Fridays in November, a silent raffle of sports tickets, a balloon pop and building over 30 gift baskets for a raffle. In the end, over 700 employees participated in the fund raising efforts and the United Way of Lake County will have an additional $51,148.19 to work with during the Holiday Season and New Year.
