Waukegan,
Ill., 02/02/06 Responding to the
critical need for more patient beds in Lake
County, Vista Health Victory Memorial Hospital
moved patients into their new 5 West Unit
within fours hours of receipt of their occupancy
permit from the Illinois Department of Public
Health. Upon viewing her room, patient Leslie
Adkins remarked, This is the nicest
hospital room Ive ever been in as a
visitor or a patient. The new 5 West
Medical/Surgical Unit provides 32 semi-private
beds and 10 private rooms allowing for 201
staffed beds at Victory Memorial Hospital.
The facility is licensed for 336 beds.
Since
our expanded Level II Trauma Center Emergency
Department opened in December we have been
working hard to comfortably accommodate our
increasing number of patients. By relocating
office staff, we were able to quickly and
cost-effectively construct a brand new unit
for patients with medical or post-surgery
needs, stated Barbara Martin, CEO of
Vista Health.
Special
features in the new patient unit include spacious
rooms that are unique in layout with a large
bathroom with shower, furniture-quality closets,
desks and individual room temperature controls
and custom lighting. Tammie Finn, Vice President,
Patient Care Operations and Chief Nurse Executive,
said, With the many built-in features
specifically designed for patient, staff and
physician convenience, the delivery of care
model for this unit allows nurses to spend
more time with their patients in this state-of-the-art
environment.
