VICTORY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL TO DOUBLE THE SIZE OF ER AND ADD 41 BEDS

Waukegan, Ill., 10/07/05 – Vista Health Victory Memorial Hospital is expanding its inpatient capacity by renovating space currently used as staff offices. Scheduled for completion by the end of 2005, the new 5 West Unit will provide 30 semi-private beds and 11 private rooms.

“With the new, expanded Emergency Department at Victory Memorial Hospital opening soon, we want to ensure that we can comfortably accommodate our increasing number of patients. By relocating office staff, we are able to quickly and cost-effectively construct a brand new, state-of-the-art unit for patients with medical or post-surgical needs,” said Barbara J. Martin, president and chief executive officer of Vista Health.

When complete, Vista Health’s Emergency Department Level II Trauma Center will provide 31 treatment areas and double the square footage dedicated to emergency care. Phase I of the ER expansion scheduled to open during October will provide two triage stations, an expanded area for ER patient registration, a large glass enclosed waiting area for families and a contained waiting/play area with a whimsical ocean theme for children.

The completion in early 2006 of Phase II will update current treatment rooms for seriously injured or ill patients, relocate and expand current “fast track” treatment areas, and modernize and move the ER-dedicated imaging area to a central location with newly installed x-ray equipment.

Per Tammie Finn, Chief Nursing Officer, “With modernized treatment rooms along with expanded triage, registration and family waiting areas, our ER can efficiently provide the best of emergency care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

With over 40,000 patients expected to need emergency care at Victory Memorial Hospital during 2006, Vista Health is investing today to meet the healthcare needs of its patients now and in the future.
