Waukegan,
Ill., 07/20/07--Vista Health System announces a $7 million expansion plan to the intensive care unit (ICU) at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. Vista also is pleased to report that its Orthopedic and Joint Center will formally open within the month.
“The expanded ICU will allow us to continue to serve our patients more efficiently and we are proud to bring enhanced orthopedic services to our patients in the all new Orthopedic & Joint Center,” said Barbara J. Martin, President and CEO of Vista Health System.
This renovation and new program are in addition to the multi-million dollar investment Vista already has committed to Vista East for:
- Expanding the emergency room, making it the largest ER in Lake County;
- Adding a dedicated cardiac catheterization lab and endoscopy suites;
- Upgrading the medical/surgical patient unit;
- Renovating its infusion therapy unit and main entrance lobby.
In addition, Vista continues to move forward on its improvements to Vista Medical Center West in Waukegan, which recently opened its Stand-by ED / 24-hour Urgent Care Center that is serving a growing number of patients. The inpatient rehabilitation, behavioral medicine and corporate health programs at Vista West also continue to provide advanced medical care and services to patients.
“We are experiencing an enthusiastic response from the community and our employees as we strive to provide the best available health care for the residents of Waukegan and its surrounding communities,” said Martin. “These plans are just the beginning. Soon we’ll be unveiling our new open heart surgery program at Vista East.” In June, Vista East received state approval for open heart surgery.
The combination of these new plans and completed projects are a continuation of Vista’s pledge to invest $70 million into their Waukegan facilities. Vista also provided more than $20 million in charity and uncompensated care in 2006, and its two Waukegan hospitals care for more Medicaid patients than any other hospital in Lake County.
