Springfield,
Ill., 6/12/07--The Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board has unanimously approved Vista Health System’s application to provide open heart surgical healthcare to the people of northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.
“Today, northern Lake County has been awarded the ability to receive superior cardiac healthcare, in their own community.” said Barbara Martin, President and Chief Executive Officer of Vista Health System. “Historically, a cardiac emergency required many patients and families to travel south to the North Shore or north to Wisconsin. With this ruling, a door has opened to provide that same care locally.”
Approval of this Open Heart Certificate of Need will allow Vista to provide a variety of surgical procedures. Under the category of open heart surgery, Vista’s physicians will now be able to perform a variety of different procedures, including coronary artery bypass grafts and valve repairs or replacements.
At the end of the summer, Barbara Martin and her team are anticipating another appearance before the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board to discuss the Vista Medical Center Lindenhurst hospital application. Looking forward, Mrs. Martin stated, “I am confident that my next meeting with the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board will drastically improve access to healthcare for all citizens in northeastern and northwestern Lake County in Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin.”
Vista Health System’s next appearance before the Board is scheduled for July 24, 2007.
