Waukegan, Ill., 1/4/07--Vista Health System announces more than $2 million in free health care services given to HealthReach in 2006.

“HealthReach’s services are vital to our communities,” said Barbara Martin, president and CEO of Vista Health System. “The mission’s of our organizations overlap and together we provide equal access to health care services for all residents of Lake County.”

Vista has partnered with HealthReach since 1992, when the organization was established. HealthReach began as an urgent care center to treat broken bones, flu symptoms and other minor medical needs. Today, HealthReach focuses on managing chronic diseases, such as diabetes, respiratory conditions and neurological disorders. HealthReach often refers patients to Vista Health System for services such as inpatient surgery, physical rehabilitation or X-rays.

Vista also refers patients to HealthReach to fill pharmacy prescriptions, receive follow-up care or attend educational programming to learn more about managing their diagnosed conditions. The partnership between HealthReach and Vista ensures that residents of Lake County have access to all the health care services they need, free of charge.

The mission of HealthReach, which serves more than 4,000 patients a year, is to provide access to primary care for the medically underserved, giving patients a regular provider to visit rather than taking non-life-threatening injuries to the emergency room. Building these relationships and connecting patients with primary care physicians leads to better overall health of the patients.

“Our partnership with Vista Health System is collaborative and cooperative,” said Jim Zimmerman, CEO of HealthReach. “We thank Vista for their support of our organization and services year-round. We couldn’t provide the care we do without their assistance.”
