Vista Health to Partner With Community Health Systems

Waukegan , IL , 10/04/05 --Vista Health announced today the signing of a letter of intent with Community Health Systems (CHS) of Brentwood , TN , a leading operator of non-urban, general acute care hospitals. “Vista Health will greatly benefit from resources that can be provided by Community Health Systems, including access to capital for healthcare service expansion, purchasing system efficiencies and standardized management information systems. Furthermore, CHS is committed to the local community and works closely with all local healthcare employees, physicians and governing boards to ensure personalized and caring service for total patient satisfaction,” said Barbara J. Martin, president and chief executive officer of Vista Health.

Vista Health is comprised of Victory Memorial Hospital , St. Therese Hospital , Vista Health Surgery and Treatment Center , Vista Imaging Center , Vista M.R. Center and other ancillary buildings. Community Health Systems through its subsidiaries currently owns, leases or operates 71 hospitals in 21 states. Shares in Community Health Systems are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "CYH." Finalization of the transaction is subject to state regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions and is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
