How will I know what to do the day
of surgery?
Your doctor will talk to you about the surgery
and his staff Will give you guidelines. A
couple of days before your procedure You will
receive a call from Vista Health’s surgery
staff. They will ask you for some information
and explain to you when you should arrive
at the hospital, where you should go when
you arrive and how to check in.
Will
I be able to drive myself home following surgery?
No, you should not plan on driving yourself
home following your procedure. You will probably
feel tired for up to 24 hours after your procedure.
You may even feel some discomfort. Be certain
you arrange for someone to drive you home
after surgery.
What
if I develop a cold or diarrhea?
If you develop a cold, fever or experience
a change in your physical condition before
surgery, please notify your surgeon immediately.
I know I can’t eat anything
before surgery, but a small swallow of coffee
is okay, isn’t it?
DO NOT eat or drink anything after midnight
on the day before your surgery.
No
breakfast – No morning coffee –
No juice – No water – Nothing
by mouth
How
should I dress on the day of my surgery?
Wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes. Gowns
and slippers will be provided for you at the
hospital.
What should I do with my earrings
and rings?
Leave all of your jewelry and other valuables
at home.
How
will the surgery staff know if my medications
will conflict with any of their care?
Bring any medications that you have been taking
at home along with you to the hospital.
What
do I need to bring with me to the hospital
on the day of my surgery?
Be sure to carry your identification along
with your insurance card and whatever cash,
checks, money orders or credit cards you will
need to pay your co-payment/deductible portion
of your bill.
When
do I need to arrive at the hospital?
Unless you receive special instructions from
your doctor, please plan to arrive at the
hospital 2 hours before your scheduled surgery
time.
