PET/CT Scans

Integrated Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) Imaging is a safe and painless procedure, typically taking about 1 hour to complete. It also helps identify diseases earlier and more specifically than ultrasound, CT or MRI.

PET, when fused with CT scans, provides more complete information on cancer location, size shape and metabolism to the physician. In cancer treatment, PET is the only modality that accurately images many organs with a single pass to allow determination of malignancy. It can provide information to help determine where a primary cancer has metastasized to other parts of the body.

Research has shown PET/CT to be useful in detecting or staging the following types of cancer: solitary pulmonary nodule, lung cancer, head and neck cancers, colorectal cancer, melanoma, lymphoma and breast cancer.
