A partial nephrectomy procedure requires the removal of a section of the kidney by targeting cancerous cells while preserving the rest of the organ. Robotic surgery can be used to save kidney function and cause less scarring, reduce blood loss and shorten recovery time. Robotic surgery allows surgeons to perform a partial nephrectomy without making a large incision. In certain cases, it also can be preferable over standard laparoscopic surgery to help save additional parts of the kidney.
While clinical studies support the effectiveness of robotic-assisted surgery when used in minimally invasive surgery, individual results may vary. There are no guarantees of outcome, and all surgeries involve the risk of major complications.
