For Lina the main reason for doing weight loss surgery was her kids and being able to do activities with them. That was a very big thing for her. She states, “I didn’t have diabetes or high blood pressure, healthwise I was fine, but I thought about the future. Now was a perfect time to do it.” She decided on the bypass because she had younger kids and didn’t have time for the adjustments. She was also concerned that insurance wouldn’t cover the fills.
Getting approved was a very long process, but she is glad she waited, wanting to be sure that it was what she wanted to do. Now, after losing almost 95 lbs she says, “I don’t miss overeating. I enjoy what I eat.” The only things that aggravate her are very sweet things and super well-done steak. She advises people if they have the option of surgery, get it done. Things are more advanced now and it is a good and easy procedure.
When asked what things she wished she’d known in the beginning she stated: “I wish I would have done it sooner, not waited so long. Support groups teach you a lot, you learn from them. They are very important throughout the whole process, looking for goals, and keeping you motivated.”
